Course Description
Attaining a Gymnastics for All Level 1 certification will enable you to serve as an assistant coach in this particular discipline. This certification will allow you to enhance your skills in providing support both male and female athletes across different age groups and on various equipment. As an assistant coach, you will have the opportunity to assist coaches at Level 2 or higher in this discipline. Additionally, you will be responsible for a group of up to 8 athletes under the supervision of the senior coach.

As a Level 1, you do not possess the certification to independently conduct classes.

Duration
Our Gymnastics for All Level 1 course is a full-day in-person program that involves ongoing assessment throughout the duration of the course.

Pre- Requisites
Course Attendees Must:

  • Be at least 14 years old
  • Hold either Club Coach or Freelance Coach membership.

Establishing Safe Practices
Preparing athletes for sessions
Proficiency award scheme and competition
Coaching skills
Progressive practice and readiness to progress
Introduction to biomechanics
Introduction to Equipment

Floor Skills:

  • Jumps and leaps
  • Rolls
  • Handstand
  • Handstand forwards roll
  • Cartwheel
  • Cartwheel with 1/4 turn inwards

Vault Skills:

  • Introduction of vaulting
  • Vault preparation (run up drills, springboard work, bunny hops, leapfrog & bench/box top work)
  • Squat on, jump off
  • Squat vault
  • Straddle vault
  • Squat on, catspring off

High Single Bar Skills:

  • Safety when working on a single bar
  • Body shaping for correct swing technique
  • Body shaping drills
  • Developing grip strength and grip change awareness

Low Bar Skills:

  • Inverted hangs
  • Teaching the upward circle
  • Backwards hip circle
  • Cast from support on single bar
  • Half forwards circle dismount
  • Cast and jump back to land on floor dismount

Bench, Beam and Platform Skills:

  • Bench and beam apparatus arrangements
  • Bench, beam and platform awareness activities
  • Static balances
  • Basic half turns – tip toe turn and squat turn
  • Mounting the beam
  • Jump to support and swing
  • Movement along the beam
  • Introduction to jumping on beam
  • Supported forwards rolls on bench and floor beam
  • Jump dismounts from bench, beam or platform
